Frequently asked questions.
Who do you work with?
I work with professionals at all levels — everyone from recent grads just entering the job market to senior-level professionals — in non-technical roles in various industries. (Non-technical means not engineers or software developers, for instance.)
Why use a professional resume writer? What is a CPRW?
You have only seconds to grab a recruiter or hiring manager’s attention. A professional writer ensures your resume and LinkedIn profile capture attention quickly, tell your story clearly, and position you as the right fit in a competitive market – so you can move forward with confidence.
The CPRW (Certified Professional Resume Writer) credential is the global standard for resume writing. It signifies a writer who has passed rigorous testing by the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) and whose work has been peer-reviewed to ensure it meets the demands of today’s job market.
How do we get started?
Once you hire me, I’ll ask you to share your most recent resume along with 2–3 job descriptions for roles you’d be excited to apply for. These don’t need to be current listings, they simply serve as targets to guide the direction of your new materials.
I’ll thoroughly review your existing career materials and send you a questionnaire to complete before our intake meeting.
During our intake meeting on Zoom (1-2 hours depending upon your career stage), we’ll go over your materials and review your questionnaire responses. If you’ve requested more than one career document, I’ll begin with the resume as the anchor for our collaboration.
As I work on your materials, I may send follow-up questions. Most of our communication will happen over email, though we can schedule an additional Zoom if needed.
How quickly will I receive my resume or LinkedIn profile?
You’ll receive your resume within 7 business days of our intake call. If you’ve chosen a package, I’ll complete your cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and bio within 3-4 days of your resume draft.
Is it possible to get my materials quicker?
Accelerated timelines may be accommodated for an additional charge.
Do I have the opportunity to get revisions from the original drafts?
Of course. While my goal is to deliver materials that feel close to “ready to go,” I know revisions can be part of the process, and I’m happy to make them. You will have 7 business days from the time you receive each of your materials to request revisions.
What’s the difference between a resume and a LinkedIn profile? Aren’t they the same?
A resume is a tailored, one-to-two-page document highlighting your most relevant skills and achievements for a specific role. Resume writing is tight, selective, and role-specific. Each bullet point is crafted to match a job description, using measurable achievements and keywords to pass Applicant Tracking System (ATS) scans and appeal quickly to a recruiter or hiring manager. Tone: concise, achievement-oriented, stripped of extra context.
A LinkedIn profile is a broader, public, and more dynamic online presence that shows your full career story, builds your professional brand, and supports networking. LinkedIn writing is broader, more narrative, and brand-oriented. You can expand on your story, highlight values, career themes, and personality, and write in a more conversational voice. Instead of just “what you did,” it leans into “who you are” and “how you work.” Tone: approachable, professional.
Do I really need a LinkedIn profile?
Absolutely. When someone meets you or hears your name in a professional context, the first thing they do is look you up on LinkedIn. It’s how they learn about your background, often before they ever speak with you. And chances are, you do the same when you meet or hear about someone. LinkedIn is the online hub for your career relationships, and building and maintaining a network there is key to the health of your professional brand.
LinkedIn has grown far beyond being a simple online resume. Today, it’s both a professional and social platform where you can showcase expertise, share insights, and join conversations.
What is LinkedIn optimization?
LinkedIn optimization is about creating a clear, compelling profile that’s easy to navigate, rich with the right keywords, and aligned with the professional brand you want to showcase.
Where does AI fit into all of this?
AI screening tools and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) can filter out even qualified candidates if resumes and profiles aren’t written strategically. At the same time, recruiters are inundated with generic, AI-generated applications. A professionally crafted resume and LinkedIn profile ensure you use the right keywords, highlight your unique strengths, and rise above the noise – so you actually get seen and considered.
What happens in our interview prep sessions?
We discuss the positions you are applying for and how best to shine during each phase of the interview process. We identify key stories from your experience, which help you illustrate your strengths as they relate to the specific position you are in consideration for. We can practice and do mock interviews to help you adapt your stories to use as answers for specific questions you might be asked.
You can also use interview prep sessions to prepare for networking conversations – professional outreach not related to a specific position. For instance, an informational interview with a recruiter or an executive in your field of interest.
Do I have to use your writing services in order to hire you to coach me?
In a word, no. You may already have strong written career materials but want support with your interview skills or other aspects of your career.
Do you only do interview prep coaching?
No. Though I feature interview prep on my site as a natural companion to my writing services, that time is for whatever you need.
I have experience with all types of career coaching and consulting. You may want help with your overall career strategy — how to break into a certain field, for instance. My background and field of particular expertise is the entertainment industry, and I’m happy to help there, but I can discuss your career goals in any field.
You may want to level up, pivot within your field, or transition to a new field or career path altogether, such as turning your professional experience into a lucrative consulting business.
Whatever the objective, I can help you make a plan and stick to it, set goals, bounce back from setbacks and course correct, gain confidence, grow your network and strengthen your professional relationships, and ultimately find greater satisfaction in your career.
How many career coaching sessions do I need?
It depends on your goal. Some clients find one session is enough, while others benefit from multiple. Everyone’s needs are different, and we’ll use the initial consultation to decide what approach will serve you best.
Do you guarantee job placement after I work with you?
No coach can guarantee a specific job, since factors like timing, competition, or internal candidates are out of our control. What I can promise is that you’ll leave with polished career materials and strategies that give you the strongest possible advantage in your search.
